Need Some Comments

Hello. I’ve been asked to do an advertising image for a magazine. The person is inviting people to join a contest, and he wanted me to do a picture for him. So please tell me what you think before I show it to him. Maybe I should fix something up. Thank you.

Re: Need Some Comments

If I were to see this add in a magazine I'd flip the page and keep going. I just don't see anything that is going to grab my attention and make me read this page. The ring itself is odd, and will help grab some people's attention but I just don't think that grey cracked background is right for a magazine article. It looks like a tree trunk from here, not sure what it really is , but maybe something that'll bring out the ring some more. Also, when you went to blur the background, you blurred the ring's band and if it had more Sheen it might give it more of a posotive feel to me.

The font is ok, and well placed, but that ring just doesnt' do it for me.

I don't see what the tomato in the rings has anything to do anything?!

What's the subject? What's it suppose to represent? What are they asking for?

Since the contest is called "World of the Rings", I tried to show some kind of a different ring than there is.

Re: Need Some Comments

My question looking at the tomato ring is "What the F**k!

I don't know what they are looking for but World of Rings does not bring to mind what it does for you. There are phone rings, door bell rings, ring rings... It is a fruit and vegetable stand? Seriously, a logo needs to represent what the contest is about. Works the same for a buiness.
Who are you trying to draw to the contest? Salads (sorry , I couldn't resist.)

Sannbe... wow... an outburst!

I don't get it either. That is not something you'd see in a magazine.
You'd never see a headline all squished at the top.

Maybe a globe in the ring?

Re: Need Some Comments

I sorry but I must be missing something. If I were looking for a unique and striking object to mount on a ring I don't think I'd go for a tomato. I see what you've done, gone for something zany, something mad. But it looks zany and mad. It won't make people go "wow, that's amazing!", they'll have the same reaction as sannbe: utter bemusement.

Why not go for something that is a) visually striking and b) an impossible feat. You could mount a tomato on a ring in real life if you wanted to. How about the earth or the sun. You couldn't mount them if you tried. They will not only make the viewer/reader think but are also visually striking. Try something not mad but impressive.

By the way the second version is much better, whitespace can be extremely powerful. But come on a tomato?

Pete.
