Completely new

Hi All,

I have a web design/manage task if I want to take it.
I wouldn't need to get to elaborate with it,it would be for a Bluegrass promotor so I would need to include what I tink might be low tech features like performance schedules, maybe a fan forum .
I don't think e commerce would be needed at this time but maybe it would be asked to be included at a latter time, and the forum is just my own suggestion it wasn't asked for I just think it would inhance traffic to the sight.
I have slight html experience and guess I would need to learn it well before getting started,I have windows xp home with word(I no very little about using word at this point).
As far as the template(I think that's what you call it)I would be happy with existing templates that are available? I don't want to do actual art work myself.
From what I've described if it makes sense, can I learn what I need to know on line without purchasing a library, and can you give me rough abc starter task outline ?
Thanks Much.
Ted

Howdy Ted. Welcome to the forums.

Templates are really just a personal choice.... They can be very time-saving, but to a beginner (who really does want to learn) they are just side stepping the learning process.

Of course, if you are in a massive hurry, then a template may be the thing. On the other hand, if you have a reasonable time-frame to work with, then I would suggest learning XHTML.

There are several inexpensive books that cover XHTML in great detail, and also a few websites that offer great beginner tutorials.

One website that is arguably the best is http://www.w3schools.com/ you can learn XHTML there for free, and in addition you can progress to learn other technologies once you have grasped XHTML.

XHTML is the latest HTML standard.... it differs only slightly from HTML and as a new beginner, XHTML is a standard I would highly recommend. Stear clear of the old HTML syntax.

Whatever you write (code), make sure it validates as XHTML using the w3c validation tool available here:- http://validator.w3.org/

Whenever you get stuck, or just want to hang around and learn from experienced people then these forums are an excellent venue. Hanging around with other web designers and developers will make some of the magic rub off on you if you keep up and try to learn / follow the posts that are made here.

I wish you good luck with your learning experience!!
