Re: Greetings from a newbie
Welcome to the zoo!
Sorry to head about the job loss but ... I guess you are not the only one nor the last that will loose their job to cheap India. Anywho ... about web design... I'll tell you right now ... Expression Web is probably not the best way to go about learning how to create website. Learn to code by hand using Notepad. Sounds like a nightmare I know but, you'll thank me later when you can solve your problems quicker There are few good stickies in the Beginners Resources section you should have a look at First one - Resources for learning HTML and CSS Then ... you can tackle CSS layouts - Resources for learning how to use CSS for layout Check out the newsletter in December. I have a tutorial coming out on how to create a website from a to z hth |

Re: Greetings from a newbie
Thanks for the tips. I will check those resources out very soon.
The very first web development class I took (Intro to Web Development) taught us how to code HTML by hand as you have described. My instructor gave the same reasons you did for learning how to do it by hand first. Guess he knew what he was talking about after all! Thanks and have a great day! |

Re: Greetings from a newbie
Well... that's a relief! Seems like you might have an instructor that actually *knows* HTML
Good luck and if you're stuck, ASK on the forumz! |

Welcome to the forumz Misty!!
Being a programmer, I bet you've heard of Formal Specification and Object Z. |

Re: Greetings from a newbie
I've never heard of Object Z, but I just Google'd it and I see it is an object-oriented language. I am a COBOL programmer (procedural language). I have taken a beginning VB.net course, but that is the only exposure to object oriented programming that I have had. Are you a 'Z' programmer?

Re: Greetings from a newbie
I have to learn it at uni because we had a chap from IBM come in to give a talk on software development and he said that out of a team of 20, about 5 people could read Object Z and only 1 or 2 could write it.
I've heard of COBOL but never used it. I have used Pascal before a couple years back as well as Visual Basic and am still learning Java |
