Hi all - i "know" HTML struggling with design...

Hi

I have a relatively good understanding of HTML and have been looking into CSS. I am really beginning to struggle with the design aspect of a website (currently on the drawing board only). I can downlod a template and look at the code but still struggle to make my own site design up from scratch. In photoshop i can havea great layout but then get stuck changing it to a webpage. Are there programs which allow me to design everthing as a page and then it takes over the code bit?

Any tips/tutorials you guys recommend?

ta

Hi,

Its simple really once you get the hang of it, you just need to slice your layout up, and save as html. Heres a tutorial that should help you, if not just search google.

Cheers for that link - i'll have a browse and see if it helps.

I am a firm believer in, "just google it" but have found google to create more questions than answers from its searches in the realms of basic background knowledge and web design.

Thanks again and if anyone can reccomend any other site/tutorial/program i will be most gratful.

Ta, VB

Knowing where to slice comes with experince.

Start with simple layouts, slice them then put them into html/css

Then once you can do that start moving onto more advanced layouts.

Remember to make a plan (seperate the site into header, footer, content) before you start slicing otherwise u will have to back track as you sliced things wrong

I have loads of books / sites on web design and little tips and tricks but, if you don't mind forking out for it, I would suggest "How to WOW - Photoshop for the Web" by Jan Kabili & Colin Smith.
Particularly if you have PhotoShop CS (8.0).
It will enable you to do the whole thing in PhotoShop / ImageReady and possibly some things you haven't even thought of yet.
I used Colin Smith's web-site 'PhotoshopCafe' tutorials when I started using PhotoShop so, when I saw his name, I bought this book and it's been very inspiring.
