Hi from Ipswich, UK

Have just joined this Forum. Hope it is more active than some of the groups I belong to from the past which still have large memberships but no-one responds anymore.

I am one of the worlds older web designers and my claim to fame is the creation of www.hub-uk.com

I make a living doing whatever earns me a few quid / bucks. Ideally I like web design jobs and I sometimes pick up some freelance work. I do truck / lorry driving through an agency driving mostly nights for Royal Mail but that has dried up as the year has gone by so I am falling back more and more on the web to try and earn a living.

I have just lost a £500 freelance job because I have never done a site using CSS.

My first project to enable me to try and earn a full time income from the internet is www.cookingholidays.co.uk - I don't regard mentioning it as advertising as it is aimed at the people who actually organise cooking holidays and I would be very surprised if any of them are members here.

My big passion in life after doing web sites is cooking and occasionally I help out in professional kitchens. My other great pleasure is computer games. I recently bought a new graphics card to enable me to play more up to date games (namely Age of Empires 3) but I have lost my bottle about installing the card in case I mess up my PC – especially as it is what is earning me a living at the moment.

Welcome to the forums
Im also a gamer but mainly play first person shooters.

Installaing your gfx card.
Turn off your comp > Check to see if current card has any cable ties or holders > Take out current card > put in new one > Turn on computer > install drivers > restart

Done

I have just played Doom 3 - there is nothing like a good shootout to get rid of the stress of working on the computer all day! Whatever happened to the promised arrival of virtual reality - if I remeber rightly it was promised to be generally available by now and you never hear anything of it these days. Is there a sinister plot to suppress virtual reality?

Graphics card - the card instructions say to uninstall previous drivers and to switch something on main board if it is there! What happens if the driver for new card does not work - will my screen work al right for me to try and sort it out?

The last couple of years I have landed myself with the additional burden of doing brunch served with bucks fizz and then having Christmas Dinner around 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm. It means two cooking sessions and countless dishes to wash.

I have got a new sausage making machine which I am hoping to have a go with if I get a few spare hours over Christmas.

Ye your card will still work without the drivers just on a low resolution.
