Pseudo Server
Hello. This is my first time posting. I am a VB developer, but am fairly new at web dev. I am getting my feet wet though. I do have some .NET and some Internet Transfer Control, Winsock and transfer protocol experience. I am currently working on a project that requires a little web dev and little VB. I have a web front end and a VB back end.
My first question is this: I have a PC running XP that is connected to the Internet 24/7 (well almost 99% of the time) Since I do not have a static IP, I have a program that I've written that checks my IP address every hour (might be overkill) and writes it to a text file that gets ftp'd to a personal web area. Can I set up a folder on my XP machine to be accessible via this IP, but all other folders on this drive will be blocked from access? I want this folder to be accessed via my application uses Winsock and a port between 4000 and 65535. I'm new at this and I'm just not sure how to set up permissions for this folder to make sure it is the only folder that can be accessed. Thank you, Joe |
