Angry Need Help

I am a photographer in the process of building a website for my company, Lenscapes, LLC. I’ve been taking photographs for over 30 years and decided to take advantage of the internet to market my work. I wanted to give my customers the opportunity to choose not only one of my photographs, but also the mat and frame of their choice. I hope to make my photographs available not only to the general public, but also to decorators and designers. I also do photo restoration, bringing old photographs back to their original look.
I am not a web designer, and never intended to be, but the way things turned out I have had to build my site myself with very little, but very expensive help. Almost all of it is built on trial and error, and a lot of error. I have been working in Dreamweaver 8 and know nothing about coding except what Dreamweaver puts in for me.
It is my hope that by joining in this forum I will be able to get some good advise on what I should and should not do in order to make my site workable. I have been working at it for over a year now and seem to keep running into brick walls.

Re: Need Help

Hey Lenscape, welcome to the forumz!

Why don't you get someone to do the site for you? Alot of people would gladly
do sites for alot less than you think. RentACoder could be a good place to start or posting in the Job Opportunities forum here.

'Cause right now ... you're starting off on that wrong foot with Dreamweavers Design view

Using Dreamweaver and the likes

Hand-coding is always the best way to go. It takes time but at least you come out of it with a functional web sites that works in all the major browsers.

Re: Need Help

Thanks for the advice.Did have two different people trying to build the site for me but they could'nt give me what I needed and quit. They cost me over three grand and the bugit is getting real thin. I will check out the RentACoder, but I do want to do as much as I can on this so that I can learn what I need to know in order to maintain the site when it's finally up and running.

Re: Need Help

Hi, welcome to Webforumz!

It's a shame you haven't learnt coding over the year or so that you've been working on the site, it would make you feel much more in control of it. It's not that hard to start learning some basics. Have a look at the beginner resources, and have a go at a few tutorials, you'll soon learn how to start manipulating various bits of the code you have to start turning it into what you want.

Post specific questions into the relevant forums on here and people will be glad to help!

I'm sure you will enjoy Webforumz and find it useful, I certainly have in the month that I've been here

Re: Need Help

Hi Ya, Been where you are. Design your own site with Dreamweaver. It has its place, but it is better to learn a little coding skill if you will be caring for your own site. As Vanessa said, ask questions and don't be shy about it. We have lots of experience here that just loves to help!
