putting music on a web page

I am an "advanced novice" with web sites. I use FrontPage. A doctor by profession I have a web site about a CD I have made because I also sing professionally. I can do the basic stuff, but can't figure out how to put a sample of each song on a web page. I have truncated the songs to make a "teaser," but I only have them in a .wav file. It is too big and takes too much time to download. Question: how do I attach a song to a link so that when the visitor clicks on it, it plays the "teaser" quickly? I think I may need a midi, but cannot figure out how to successfully convert a .wav file to a midi. It turns the music into rubbish and the voice is lost. Can you help?

You really need to convert to MP3 at least. Try encoding using 'lame'. A good program to do that for you is:

Ideally the best solution would be to use Flash as it would enable you to play the songs within your webpage, but clearly it would be expensive to get and difficult to learn! MP3s are the next best thing.

theres tons of software available to convert wav to mp3, try searching on google.

When you have your mp3 you can simply link to it, when a user clicks the link the mp3 will either download and play or begin playing in the users selected media player.

link example
Code: Select all

Thanks to both of you.

Yes, I am aware of Flash and demurred on its use for the reasons you stated. I will try mp3. Currently, my "work around" is to use .wma. It is better for fast streaming. Not everyone has the player though, so mp3 would have greater universality. I appreciate your taking time to reply. I am having trouble getting my version (2002) of FrontPage to recognize an mp3 file. When I try to link, it disappears. I'll figure it out somehow.

Best wishes,
Dr. J
