Here`s the advice of a novice- keep at it, try different things- that`s pretty much the only way.
Oh, and of course the invaluable help of the forumz. When you get stuck, just ask `em a question. As with most things, it`s the getting started part that`s the hardest. Been there- good luck to ye! |

Well, I started by researching other sites to see what I liked and to give me inspiration/ideas. You could try that. Have you tried using different tables, colors, text fonts? Do you have a plan in mind?

It's quite a big subject to offer advice on. Linking to something you've done so far might help folks to see where you are and what advice you need (noting carefully the forum policy regarding links).
I agree with ivy though; a good way is to keep at it and learn from your mistakes. You'll do this even with advice from others. I use Dreamweaver as well. I started off using Frontpage, which doesn't have as much to offer as Dreamweaver and makes it easier to use. I'm no pro designer but I find it easiest to start a page in Frontpage and then finish it up in Dreamweaver, with all the lil tricks it offers. FrontPage does tend to add a lot of code that isn't really needed though. I started learning about HTML and web-design recently and have been able to clean much more up myself. Have a look in the web-site critique section as well and see what others are doing. It will give you some good ideas towards layout and design. |
