Question web based stock libraries

Hi,
The name's Brian, am based in the UK and my principal interest is photography.

I would like to create an on-line stock library but am unsure how to go about it.
I have access to Dreamweaver 8 and iview. Would it be best to create one catalogue in iview and then search on it to show the images?

Are there any sites/books that explain this? I think I can create the site and the catalogue - it is the search part that is evading me. Would it be best to get so far then bring the professionals in? Is iview the best tool?

Apologies for the numerous questions - stuck down a blind alley!

Regds

Brian

Hi welcome to the forums, you might get a better response if you post your question in one the other more specific forums. This is just for meets and greets really.

As for me, well I'd take a look at whether you need a stock library, I mean do you have that many photos for a customer to want to use you instead of istockphoto or dreamstime (or someone similar). Wouldn't it be better to use a bigger site like one of these from a business point of view.

If you want to do it you need an online database and a server side language to access the database and manipulate the data. PHP and MySQL is a good place to start - lots of info and very popular. Not sure about iView i have never used it, sorry. But I would imagine a custom thing would be better anyway.

Pete.

Thanks Pete. Posted to another forum but no response yet. Re creating a database for images in MYSQL is there a site/book that goes through it step by step?

I think in the first instance I am going to try using iview, creating a gallery for each subject area eg environment as one of the templates has a search facility. However as it grows (try to be positive!) I think I will need something more sophisticated and it would be interesting to find out how to do it.

Any further thoughts gratefully received.
