Novice PHP programmer says hello
Hi, all,
I'm Steve. I manage five web sites, four of which use PHP & MySQL to varying extents. I'll list them here so you can see my "stuff;" three of them sell something, but I don't think the products will be universally coveted by this group (if a moderator disagrees, I'll gladly edit this post). http://radioattic.com; my antique radio site; most of this site's pages are created using PHP from a database. http://bitterbrook.com; same here; my lapidary site. http://wiretreasures.com; same here; my wife's jewelry site. http://radioatticarchives.com; collector's resource for radio identification. Full of tables with over 6,100 cells, all programmed in HTML (ouch). I need help with this site, but will lurk around for a while and see who lives here before I ask for help. http://alabamadesignercraftsmen.com; artists' guild's new web site; only a member list is generated from the database. I have been webmastering using FrontPage for over ten years. Never used any of their gee-whiz features. I've always been a believer in the keep-it-simple, load-it-fast philosophy. A surprisingly large number of my visitors use dial-up, so the faster I can load, the better. I had someone code PHP for radioattic.com to use a database several years ago. I plagiarized his code (is it plagiarizing when I pay for it??) ruthlessly to build the databases & code the next two sites. He started workingon the 6,100 cell monster and disappeared along with his work. I've been unable to find anyone to help me resume the project, but that's an issue for another post at another time. My PHP/MySQL skills need improvement, and that's why I'm here. In addition to the monster project, I'm trying to get a foothold on a project to (1) create and e-mail invoices and (2) use MySQL to hold invoices & payment information for the radioattic site. Also looking for ways to speed up my code. I'm very long-winded, too, so I'll tear myself away from the keyboard so you can read someone else's post. Looking forward to meeting folks here!
