Quick learner looking for help

Hi there everyone, just here to find some help with a project im working on.

Im trying to develop a website that i can do bookings with. the sort of thing with an online booking system, Where people can pay for a booking online etc. thing is i dont really know where to start. ive got plently experience with HTML and Flash and im sorta ok with Actionscript. but im thinking none of those are up for the tast. ive been on the idea that CGI might work but have bugger all experience with that. ive also heared of ASP and that alot of hotels and things use it for bookings.

can anyone give me some advice on where to start?

thank you all for any replies

If you're familiary with Actionscript you might prefer PHP as they both use a C-type syntax. I personally like ASP, but that's because of my Visual Basic background.

PHP does indeed use the same syntax as Actionscript. I personally don't like the Visual Basic syntax and therefore I don't really get on with ASP.

PHP is still a powerful language and is constantly evolving, but at the end of the day you won't learn which you prefer by us talking, you need to actually try to use the languages.

Give PHP and ASP a try - I have (as has Catalyst above!) and I know where my preference lies.

Yeah, dedicated ASP user here. I was taught VBScript a good while back, so ASP was just the natural choice for me, lol.

Thanks for the replies guys.
So either PHP or ASP would be adequate for building the backend for a booking system? i know exactly what i want it to do but have no idea where to start. but with the little background of scripting i have a vague idea of how to formulate it. i guess its like knowing what you want to say in english but have no idea how to say it in french LOL
really any help you guys can give me would be a great, great help.

Thanks again guys and i hope to hear from you soon
