Hi All,
I am currently an accountant for a large global organisation, I am 27 years old and have just landed a fabulous new role within the last two months. It has lots of potential to develop, but 4 weeks into the role and I am still feeling very uninspired by what I do! I have got to the stage now where I am seriously considering a career change into the world of web design and development. I have no formal IT qualifications or experience, and so I am really looking for some advice please! Particularly in terms of how competitive the market is, likelihood of securing a role and opportunity for career development etc. I realise I would need to take a pay cut initially, but am keen to understand what the true earning potential could be! Money isn't everything, but I would like to know if it would pay long term. I have been to see the National IT Learning Centre today who offer a course.. see url http://www.nitlc.com/CourseWebsiteDe...Developer.aspx This is going to cost c£5k and can be done at my own pace. At the end I would come out with the following qualifiactions... Macromedia Certified Dreamweaver Developer and Flash Designer, Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS), CompTIA Project+ and Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) qualifications Again, I would be SO grateful for some advice. Is this good, bad, indifferent? Would I need anything else aside from the obvious practical experience, and how marketable would I be on completion? Also, is this a good reputable organisation? Questions, questions!! I hope someone reads this and can offer me some advice anyway. I would be so grateful. The last thing I want to do is invest time and money and find that I have done the wrong thing!! I look forward to hearing from you! Best regards, Sarah. |

Re: Hi All - Advice Appreciated!
Welcome to the Webforumz, Sarah. There are many ways to learn web design. Going to school is one way. Self taught is another. Ultimately, what you produce (creatively) and what you really know is what will get you the work. Have you looked into IT opportunities within your own company? Sometime that is a good way to start. If you can get the education and continue to work that would be the best way to go. Everyone here will give you suggestions. Ultimately, it will be what you are most comfortable with...Whatever you deside....Good Luck!!!!!!!
