I'm new, some help needed too.

I'm just starting in web design, and i'm looking to know everything that i will need to learn to be a Freelance Designer. I want to know what
software i should use and what coding languages i should learn to stand a good chance of being a designer. I'm also looking to offer other
people webhosting when i get a bit more confidant with designing, what would i need to do this and how might do it?
I havn't got a site up yet but i'm hoping to get it up by the end of the month.
It's going to be my portfolio site, so can maybe someone give me any tips on how i can get work?
I'm looking to add a forum to my site but i've never dealt with this type of thing before and i'm wondering if someone could please tell
me how to do this?

Welcome to Webforumz,Vorbis. Good luck on your career. Software can be tricky. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Some out there are Dreamweaver (use split or code view to learn), Nvu, Microsoft has Expression which I believe is replacing Front Page. Ultimately, you should learn CSS if you don't already know how to use it. I am a relative newbie to web design and that was the first thing I heard at these forumz and after trying am a total believer. Whatever program you use, make sure you understand how it works and are comfortable with using it.

I wen't to start learning css and i found that it's identicle to html. I'm above average when writing html so i found that learning css is just like using the (bg colour="#000000") and stuff like that, so i'm sure i'll learn css quite quickly.

Can anyone help me with the web hosting part for my site.

Do you have a domain? How much space and disk space are you needing?

I still need to get a domain, but i'm hoping to get my website up within the next few weeks at least cause i still need to get the net in at home.

But i need enough space to be able hold alot of pictures and zip file on average a zip file would be about 500Kb and an image would be about 1Mb.

But i want to be able to host my clients sites too, what do ya think i should do?

1) xHtml
2) CSS
3) Php
4) MySql
5) Flash
6) Javascript

Without those your going to find a lot of projects that you simply cant handle.

Is XHTML not the same as html but you have to put the tags in correctly every time e.g. <p>This is a paragraph</p>?

They're similar, but XHTML has stricter rules, and a few things were removed, like the target attribute and others.

Can someone give a good site to learn MySQL?
