Re: New user wants to lock source code html
There are things out there to encrypt your source etc.. but why?. Also you can use a robots.txt file and tell them where they can/can't go. And do yourself a favor and save yourself many headaches and trouble later. Throw Frontpage away!

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
Dreamweaver is good... Frontpage puts in some extra code. So does dreamweaver, but not as bad. It is better if you learn how to hand code, then start using programs like dreamweaver, that way you know what code is extra. Dreamweaver has a nice spilt view that will allow you to do that. I am sure some of the other guys will tell you more about why Frontpage sucks...lol

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
Unless you really know how to use Frontpage, you're going to end up with extremely bloated files using methods that aren't standards compliant. Coding by hand in XHTML and CSS is undoubtedly the best way to go.

Oh dreamweaver....i heard of that a while ago and thought it was too complicated for beginers....so i was told......mmm
the next question number 3,001 was how do i get the pages to load in the viewers browsers quickly...i have made the images really small and still takes over 30 secs at 56k (which is still common in uk), is there any way of chop some space from the front page html or it's not it. Thanks guys. GF |

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
You don't need a WYSIWYG editor. Just take the time to learn it right and that way you know your code. Its a wonderful thing.

Hi Ryanfait.
I'm really interested in your reply of moving the source code down about 50 lines....sounds great, but i'm just worried that when i do the confusing SEO for the website the robot will read all 5o lines and think that maybe that these page will not rank very high. I'd love a high ranking site. Would this be a problem (or i can tell the robot to start at line 50 for example?). I will use your answer if it's ok, it's not that i doubt you. Thanks friend Tom GF |

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
Oh another question was....whats the best way to layout the website for optimum SEO?....is it frames, css, table templates.....i would assume that the ultimate would be learn HTML....but it's hard man.
Thanks Tom GF |

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
I really doubt a search engine would dock you for moving your source code down some. It seems highly unlikely to me.

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
i liked Dreamweaver some years ago, but now i can hardly see it and use Homesite with Top style. Am i right or maybe it would be better to go back to dreamweaver?... (stupid question, i know, just thought maybe i missed something

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
IMO you have not missed anything.
I use HTML-Kit and TopStyle. I would recommend both to anyone. In a recent authoritative survey of web professionals, 40% claimed they used Dreamweaver. The other side of this is of course 60% don't. I also read somewhere that I can't remember just now that the numbers of developers using Dreamweaver was slowly but steadily falling. |

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
yeah, my friend professional designer doesn't use dreamveawer too.
but it's better for beginners than hand coding, IMO |

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
Hey, gone fishing. Sounds like you need to do some research online and read some of the 100,000 websites out there about web design, css, xhtml, seo, design programs, etc etc...
Asking a few questions is one thing, but trying to learn everything about web design in one thread just isn't going to happen. SEO is complicated, helping you create faster loading pages requires seeing your website and apparently you are too paranoid to give us a link. You don't need to throw away Frontpage, I'm sick of hearing this because it's wrong and just an opinion. You can use it just fine. Just like most other wysiwyg programs (YES EVEN THE ALMIGHTY DREAMWEAVER!!!) you have to just forget about the wysiwyg part and use the coding aspects. I think FP is great for file management and simple to use and has some great search and replace features that will perform the action on a few files or the entire site. It's very usable. If you have a friend that is a professional designer, you should make sure he's using the latest coding and design techniques before learning from him, but he could be your best teacher. Quote:
Better to use notepad as others have said so that you know the language then use DW later in any view. Dreamweaver is a great tool dont get me wrong.. no good for n00bies though! Say a beginner designs a page in design view.. ask him to check his tags when he or she has a page error and thats it.. 50%+ wont have a clue what you mean. Just an oppinion from a learner.. well infact were all still learners... just some more accomplished than others.. but with things always improving and changing.. were always learning Now back to the original message / question.. As far as I'm aware through all my googling and forum visits to various other webmaster resources... there is no total and absolute way of hiding your source code. I wanted to do this also.. and went searching.. spent about a month reading post after post.. argument after argument... discussion after discussion and article after article and there is no precise or totally fool proof way of protecting your code. theres always some way around it. Dissable right click and some users using certain browsers can turn that off or us CTRL and other keys... theres view source... javascripts to paste into browsers to force source to be revealed.. theres tonnes of ways to protect your code and tonnes of ways around them. Dont just take it from me.. research it yourselves. Nothing is safe from internet trolls! |

Re: New user wants to lock source code html
theres no point in hiding your code anyway if someone wants to copy your site all they gota do is look at it and make there own code..
it might be a pain but if there hell bent on it theyl do it. any1 in this forum could copy a website just by looking at it EVEN ME! lol and im not exactly a pro at this |
