Domain and forwarding

I currently have a web-page hosted by my ISP. I've registered a domain now and have forwarding setup from the domain host. My question is this:

Is there a way I can hide the links to my ISP? currently when you go to my website at say www.example.com it lists example.com in the address field, but when you put your mouse over any of the pictures or links on the site it lists www.isphost.com and when you open another window it displays www.isphost.com

Is there anyway to make it display www.example.com/image01 ?

Hope that was a clear enough question.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Domain and forwarding

Check out the different type of web forwarding Example.com ask you to use and pick a different one to the one you used.
Mine gives me an option for "No web forwarding" in my instruction of how to set up its web-forwarding service.
Obviously, having first purchased web-forwarding, this is about as much use as a hosepipe in the South of England.

Re: Domain and forwarding

Does your host offer URL masking? (that might help)
Is the code on your page specifying example.com or just the image. (i.e. http://www.example.com/image1.jpg or image1.jpg)
Does the image even come up if you type in http://www.example.com/image1.jpg?

Unfortunately you might have to specify the direct url of choice for each image and link. This will work, but is not very forward compatible.

Re: Domain and forwarding

I'm not sure if my host offers URL masking, I'm awaiting a response on that question.

The page is for displaying photos I've taken. The images are specified in the code as:

Images/Aviation/001bw.jpg so when the page is opened the link is displayed as www.isphost.com/images/aviation/001bw.jpg. Ideally what I would want to be displayed is www.mydomain.com/images/aviation/001bw.jpg or something like that.

Re: Domain and forwarding

If your host doesnt offer url masking. There are likely two ways you can fix the problem.

#1. instead of having the code say images/aviation/001bw.jpg you would have to have http://www.mydomain.com/images/aviation/001bw.jpg. That way regardless of what the host wants to force it to have it'll send it where you want it to go. It isn't the cleanest way to do it but it should work as long as you can view the images directly like that as well.

-or-

#2. You could use mod_rewrite in the .htaccess file (if your host supports unix). Then it'll automatically rewrite those urls for you, or should (I am not a mod_rewrite specialist by any stretch of the imagination).

Re: Domain and forwarding

Well no one has mentioned how to properly setup a domani.

Basically you need to change your domain's nameservers to your ISP account.
You can then use www.mydomain.com/index.html etc.

Re: Domain and forwarding

Domain forwarding is just a temporary way of using a domain. Meaning the nameservers are still registered with 123reg or ukreg (whoever you registered the domain with).

Once you have hosting you can move the domain to your hosting meaning you no longer have to use their web forwarding.

Not quite sure what you mean by moving my domain to my host. My ISP is the webpage host right now, as it's free.

How would I go about moving a domain to my host?

Re: Domain and forwarding

Email them, and ask them for the nameservers (they might not give them you as its low level hosting).

But thats how its usually done.
