ideas please
If this is in the wrong place I do apologise I am new to the site
I have been tasked with setting up a website, I have most of this now worked out, but there is one part of the site where I am struggling and would appreciate any ideas. Basically the site is for a mobility company which I work for, and we have a lot of secondhand mobility scooters in stock, which we need to sell, the problem being is that all of our sales staff are located about 400 miles from the warehouse where the scooters are kept, now my idea is to build a site, that the sales staff can look at, where there will be photos and descriptions of all the scooters etc, the sales team can then see what we have in stock and hopefully sell them, but my big problem is how to stop say the same scooter being sold twice or three times, is there anyway that if someone is interested in a particular one, it can be shown as reserved or sold etc this is the only part of the site where I am stuck, any ideas/help would be very gratefulthanx andy |

Re: ideas please
Sounds like you need a stock control system not a website. It kind of is in the wrong forum but seeing as you're new I'll let you off.
You need to be looking at some kind of ASP or something server side to be able to keep tabs on your stock but as far as being able to update it on the fly when a sale is made... Beats me! I'm not a programmer.... I think it is a lot more complext than you understand... a lot more complex than I understand for that matter.

Re: ideas please
Ye you would need a stock level in a database for each item which decreases everytime its sold. Once it reaches 0 you could have the choice of waiting longer to re-order or just saying were sold out.

Re: ideas please
we have stock control, but it is hard to see what you are selling as there are so many secondhand ones on the market, and every customer has different disability needs, so our sales guys need to see what they are selling. Like i say this is the only sticking point, if it cant be done I will see if there are other options available (just dont know what yet

Re: ideas please
All you need is a programmer to tie your database (stock system) to a visual component and allow it to be searched, displayed, reported, printed and etc. I am not a programmer either, but you could post in the PHP or ASP forum and see if some of the programmers here could give you more information. At which point if your company can I would then post it in the Web Developer Needed forum to get quotes/bids for the job.
