Copyright symbol displayed as junk character

Hi,

I am building up a newsletter in HTML. The HTML code displays perfectly fine in Outlook, gmail, hotmail. But in Yahoo mail and Eudora copyright symbol is not displayed properly as one Junk character is visible before copyright symbol.

I am using UTF-8 encoding for HTML code.

Kindly help.

Deepak

Re: Copyright symbol displayed as junk character

You have to use html entities for this.
This is the copyright symbol:
HTML: Select all
©

Hi,

I have tried html entities like © , © , &#xA9. The problem is not resolved.

It feels nice to have the copyright notice immediately available, but it is really unnecessary in the scheme of things. Your content can not be redistributed without your approval at all, even if you don't include the copyright symbol.

Yes but a lot of people don't care unless they know that you're serious about it.
E.G. Someone looking for an image on google would gladly take an image without asking but if you something that said you would take legal action etc. they may think again before taking it.

I don't have © on my site - but in the terms and conditions it does say that legal action will follow if a member is found to have copied something from the site. That stops them

Re: Copyright symbol displayed as junk character

Copyright symbol is not on the webpage. But I have built a newsletter in HTML and am sending it through SAP system. When a subscriber receives the email in Outlook the copyright symbol is ok but when the subscriber receives the email in Eudora there is a junk character before Copyright symbol.

Can anyone help with this.

You're up against a setting in Eudora in this case. In some cases, the Eudora user will see the character without a problem, while for others, it will be misrespresented. It can also depend on the default font that is chosen for a particular program, like Eudora.

That's my 2 cents :^{>

Re: Copyright symbol displayed as junk character

Thanks! This is exactly how I could solve this problem. In Yahoo mail I had to set up the encoding type to UTF-8 by clicking on More Actions button.

Eudora can only handle the characters in the ISO8859-1 charsets. In order to solve this problem I had to download the plug-in. The detailed explanation for this and the link to download plug-in is available at the following page.

Thanks for all the help on this forum.
