mailto and IE6

Hi
I'm writing an email form using mailto, i was under the impression the contents of the form where emailed once submit was clicked on. Instead outlook express opens, i looked into this and found out it's an IE6 problem which causes mailto to open an email client. Is there anyway round this in HTML?
Don
code: -

Code: Select all
   <FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="private.php?do=newpm&u=3702" ENCTYPE="text/plain">
private.php is handling the form so that is the code we need to see.

I think you are under a misaprehention here.

mailto: is an href option like http://. Using mailto: in a link will always open up the users default email client. This is not an IE problem. It's the way it's supposed to work.

As as already been said, post the php so we can see what you are trying to do.

Re: mailto and IE6

Apart from anything else, using 'mailto' will open you up to having the e-mail address you show harvested from your own site by robots and then sold on to those bastions (*possible mis-spelling) of civilisation, the lovely spammer folk.

Then one of you had better let us see the code you are trying to use.

Then we can see whether you are trying to use the hrfe='mailto:.. code or whether you are trying to use the php function mailto(...).

Re: mailto and IE6

Webforumz is automatically changing your post to protect your email address.....

For everyone else's benefit:-
The Action is NOT private.php (thats what webforumz is adding in), it is actually this:-
mailto : Bruno_89 [@] XhotXmaXil .co.uk

(The above line is broken up and has X's inserted to protect bruno from spam)

Ok. With the above code, the ACTION='mailto:' will cause the default email client to be activated when the form is submitted. That's the way this code is supposed to work.

The other post shows the form with ACTION='private.php'. Need to see the php code you are using to find out what is going wrong.
