Hand-code! Everything!

It takes a little while, but there aren't that many elements and you're really always using the same ones: div, p, img, ul. Those 4 are probably the most used.

As for CSS, that takes more time because there are many properties but again ... you'll end up using the same ones: width, margin, padding, font.

It's practice, practice, practice. Like anything, you don't learn this stuff in a day or two.

I dunno. At the rate new 'web designer' pages are popping up - it seems that one day you're working the counter at starbucks, the next, you're a 'professional web designer' So, it must be pretty easy to learn in a day or two

And intelligence. You need some subtlety to work out what method to use and when. The difficult part is not learning the elements, the syntax. The difficult part is decided when to use the different elements and what combinations of them produce a valid, accessible document. Likewise, memorising CSS properties is easy, but knowing how they combine to create different layouts and knowing how the different combinations of properties have different effects on different elements is where it gets tricky. It's all doable though.

Pete.
