Frames

Hey everyone,

OK, so we all know frames are annoying, and that's what I need help with.

I've designed my website, using 3 frames, a frame at the top of the page, a frame at the left of the page and a main frame. I'm happy with the design, but obviously when using frames, if someone has a different browser, a different screen resolution or views websites by tabs, then my design looks messy and all over the place.

I was just wondering if there was anything that can sort this problem out, so that my frames won't go all over the place when somebody is viewing differently to the next person.

I hope this makes sense,

thanks in advance.

Re: Frames

Why are you using frames tho?! It is only because you have 1 file for you menu, 1 for your footer or whatever?! If so ... then I would suggest looking into includes

How to put your menu/static info. on every page

Re: Frames

Thanks,

It's just me sticking to what I know at the moment, frames are easy to use, there are just a few flaws, I'll look in to includes, but in the meantime, does anyone know how to help me with my frames problem?

Re: Frames

Haha, I know we're annoying when we don't "help" people out, but really, we're helping you out way more in telling you not to use frames. PHP includes are the simplest of things, and they're way nice for the visitors.

Re: Frames

Do you have the cols and rows and whatever by using % or actual pixels? Try using %. Other than that ... that's why nobody uses frames ... they suck. You can't bookmark the pages properly and search engines totally hate them

Re: Frames

No don't get me wrong, I know you're helping me by pointing me in the direction of PHP, just looks a little scary, I've never used it before. I'm gonna try and learn it though, from the beginning.

Re: Frames

Well ... the includes is really simple. Just go to the link and the 3rd post I think ( the one from Ryan Fait) has a very simple explanation on how to get it to work.

Re: Frames

I remember the scary feeling and it taking me 8 hours to put in a header!
But!!!!* Just a few months later, I had it down fairly well and I consider myself pretty fluent now.* After years of tables, if I can do it, so can you!

I can't help you on the frames question because it's been so many years since I've worked with them that I can't remember how to do them.

Re: Frames

Frames suck. They're the worst way to build a site hands down. You need to learn other methods otherwise you'll only have the people you tell looking at your site and not potential money makeing people. If your going to do it do it right the first time.
