Site-feed

Okay, what I want to do is to make a portion of my site where my registered users can customize what news comes directly to them, similar to my.yahoo.com.

They would log onto somthing like my.domainname.com, and it would give them a page where the most recent news regarding whatever topic they are watching will come up. The catch is that all content will come directly from my site.

I am planning to completely re-write my site, I'm curently using some older html practices mixed with css.

I need to know what type of html, xml, css... I should use. Should I write my site in php? I have to re-write around a thousand pages, so I want to make sure I do this right the first time.

This project is beyond my current expierence level, but all I need is a starting point, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you need functions such as.
Show latest 10 posts, show only certain categorys, certain date etc?

If so then your best doing it in php.
Making a mysql/php news system is the first step.

Well, that gives me a place to start. Thank you very much. (Yes, something like the last ten updates in a certain category is exactly what I need).

php isnt the only way. PHP scripters seem to snub other methods very easily. it must be a microsoft thing.

I will look into that too. Thank you, I'll post here once I can make some head-way on either one.
