IE7 font size and formatting - help
Hi
Im developing www.eccentric-toast.com And i've designed it in firefox and tested it in opera and netscape and ive been told it looks good in safari. However In IE7 all font is one size and one format and one colour regardless of settings. I do all my formatting in CSS. I use <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> as doctype and encoding. Im wondering, is there anything in particular i can do to fix it. In particular the side menu http://www.eccentric-toast.com/nav.html has a large formatting difference But even looking at http://www.eccentric-toast.com/literary/tseliot.html the font is all over the place. Is this just sloppy xhtml or a setting i just missed somewhere Thanks in advance Xhristy P.s Ignore missing images thats just not there yet! |

Re: IE7 font size and formatting - help
Okay, I looked at, and compared, the sites in the two browsers at least 10 times and I have no idea what you mean.
"This website has been designed for Firefox and tested in Opera and Netscape. Internet Explorer 6 and 7 have noticable problems due to their lack of compliance with international standards." Internet Explorer 7 does not suffer from this and I actually find myself doing more to get sites to display correctly in Firefox in complex css arrangements than IE7 these days. You should design sites for the Internet and not your personal choice of browser, especially since 2/3rds of the Internet still uses a Microsoft browser and this is highly unlikely to change this side of 2010, especially given the excellent quality of the new IE7 browser. Credit given where credit is due. If you provide some screenshots of the difference maybe I could see what you mean, but for me personally there is no difference in either browser. The complaint about the lack of standards compliance in IE7 is particularly ironic given your site does not validate on any of your pages and the code is a mess. You should have one set of <html> tags, not multiple. I'm suprised the browsers are rendering your site at all. What exactly is <h32> and <h33>? =) Sorry to seem harsh but I hate it when people tell me what software to use to browse the web with. Aim for the market because you can't mould it =) |

Re: IE7 font size and formatting - help
The problem has since been fixed
btw im just making sure that my site meets all standards now that is why I am coming on forums asking for help to problems i didnt know existed. This is my first site and it is still majorly under construction as you see i have fixed the css problem and i am CSS w3 certified i am in the process of becoming xhtml w3 certified that note about browsers is for anyone who is coming to the site to know they are not seeing what i intend them to see, so they do not automatically dislike the site and disgard it as "badly done". as with most sites impressions are created on first encounters a bad first impression might lead to them never coming back again Xhristy |

IE is what 90%+ of what the population uses to browser the internet! You cannot ask them to change! If you code your site properly, use the tiny hacks it needs, your site will work in all browsers. http://www.thecounter.com/stats/ http://w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp |
