I hate marquees. I am not really sure that you can stop them after so many scroll's. I guess for this type of thing a flash one would be your best option. Most are done this way anyway.

Is a marquee where something just scrolls constantly like a banner or something to catch your eye?

Pete.

Yeah, I think he is talking about an html marquee...very annoying and not being used anymore. That is why I suggested a flash one.

Yeah I hate them. I don't mind those flash ones were if you mouseover the middle it stops but if you move to the right it goes left and vice versa, like a wheel or something. They can be quite nice. But why not just stick thumbnails on a page. Gives it a bit more razzle-dazzle I guess.

Pete.

Re: how to stop marquees after some time

Yeah and you could use lightbox. Lightbox does some nice JS...you should check out all of your options. But I kinda like the flash way, it is just cool...lol

Re: how to stop marquees after some time

But lightbox is not a "marquee" script. It's a "pop-up" script.

Re: how to stop marquees after some time

hey yes you can make the marquee stop this effect is called

Marquee Slide ok this is the only thing i think all you can do

<FONT SIZE="4" FACE="courier" COLOR=blue><MARQUEE WIDTH=100% BEHAVIOR=SLIDE BGColor=yellow>This is an example of a sliding marquee...</MARQUEE></FONT>

what this effect does it scrolls until it gets to the end and then stops and doesnt play anymore until the page is refreshed

test it out and your see what i mean

Thanks
Aaron

Or you could just not use a marquee. There are loads of different ways to disply tumbs of pics. This is one of the worst. Use flash or find another way.

Jacob, would something like this be difficult to implement using flash?

Pete.

Re: how to stop marquees after some time

No not at all really. Just some simple action script, and you could make a pretty advanced looking one. There are many options, but marquee is HIGHLY discouraged...but again it is up to you!

Re: how to stop marquees after some time

yea I know about the slide but that doesn't suit me too. I put a flash this on that page looks abit better. The slide only slides once in IE but the firefox in FC5 (which I use) scrolls without stoping. and I hate that.

As for the marquee, JavaScript could accomplish this quite easily.
