IE & Windows Explorer
Hi everybody,
For a number of reasons (which you probably know so I wont go into), I am using "./" instead of "default.htm" as the href of my homepage links. The only problem with this is that when previewing the site and clicking on the Homepage link, in the same window instead of going to the homepage it opens the folder I am working in inside the same IE window, but in a Windows Explorer style (with the folders and files on show). I can understand why it's doing this but I don't know of a solution, if there even is one! I am working from the "My Webs" area of my local computer and when I preview my site this is an example path: C:\Documents and Settings\User1\My Documents\My Webs\New Site\profile.htm. Does anybody know of a solution for this, or a different area of the computer I can work from to stop this happening? Thanks very much. |

This is happening on your computer because ./ is selecting a folder. On the internet, a webserver would receive the call from the user for ./ and look for a default page in the directory. If it found a default page, it would return that page and not a folder view.
Windows doesn't do this as you would never be able to view the contents of a folder if a 'default' document was contained within it! You will need to either upload your site onto a webserver and view it over the internet or setup your own webserver (install IIS). |
