Hello,
I know a little bit about creating websites and how to use the programs that create them. And knowing this, is why I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. A friend of mine, gave me a website template with all its files. If I open firefox or any browser and goto open file, then select the .html file, it will load it just fine and it looks great. In the folder of the template are the following files: xzy1.fla xzy1.fla.jsfl xzy1.swf xzy1.html xzy1-b.jpg xzy1-h.jpg And that's it, nothing else is in the folder. As for how I use to create or edit other website templates, I would goto the folder of the template, and in it would be the following files: abc2.fla abc2.swf abc2_about.html abc2_index.html abc2_about.psd abc2_index.psd And there is also a 'image' folder with a lot of images. Normally to edit this template I would use the .psd file and either Adobe Photoshop and/or ImageReady to make my adjustments. Can someone please take the time to explain what other files I could use to make the adjustments. Because as I explained, the only way I thought you could edit a template was to use the .psd file. Thanks again for your time, Jason S |

Re: Trying To Edit A Template But Missing psd File...Please Help
Hello,
First, thank you for taking the time out and helping. I know it was kind of a newbie question and appreciate you still answering. What you said about it being totally flash...is what I had thought but was not sure. You mentioned about uploading the site to see what I'm doing wrong, which I would do but I didn't do anything wrong to it yet...the question was about how could I edit it...and at this point, I cant. Just so I understand what you said. Based on the files I ONLY have with the template...I cant edit/adjust it at all, correct? Meaning, if I wanted to change the menu box from red to green, or add a shadow to a image, or etc. Aside from not having the psd files which I thought you always need, I also don't have a image folder with all the images that make up the website. However, if I load the flash file in 'Flash 8' the website loads just. And if I select the control to play, it will go thru the normal display of moving images and etc. So, if I look to the right sidebar, there is a list of folders and after the last folder, is a list of files called 'Symbol'. They start from 1 and go to about 803. When I click on one of the symbols, it shows an image. This is the other part I don't understand. If its showing me a list of symbols, which happen to be images, why cant I find them in the template folder? Remember, I only have the flash file and few other files BUT no images or image folder. I thought at least if there was an image folder with images, then I could try and edit them in photoshop. And hopefully edit them, give them that layer/blend look that you could do in photoshop. Please if someone can try and help me out. I know I wrote alot but its only because I don't know how to explain it better with less words. I don't know if the template is just messed up and missing a few files or if I just don't know the 'OTHER' way to edit the template. Thanks for any and all help, JS |

Re: Trying To Edit A Template But Missing psd File...Please Help
I don't think you understand me. I was saying that if you uploaded the website I could tell you wither you have the edit file or not. I am thinking it is a complete flash website...therefore the .Fla file would edit it. If you upload the website somewhere I could verify this.

Re: Trying To Edit A Template But Missing psd File...Please Help
Hello again,
Sorry for the delay in replying. As for uploading the temp, I cannot do this at the moment because the hosting company (lunarpages) is having a small issue with my acct. They are not showing it paid, but my statement does...anyways... You mentioned it might be just a complete flash temp...and if this is that, then would I still be able to edit the website, the same way I explained I would by using photoshop? Meaning, I understand you are saying it can only be edited with a flash program, but would I be able to make the same kind of edits...like moving a image from left to right, or adding a shadow or type of layering...that you could do with photoshop? Sorry for the strange questions...I'm just trying to figure out how this is all going to work out. Thanks again for all the help. Jason S |

Yep, really similar to that, except with flash you can build vector art, and do some really cool animation. But yes, same tools as photo shop, you can even export parts of the website into Photoshop if you prefer. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if their is anything else I can do for you.
