Question Host each website separately or as one?

Hi

I'm reasonably new to website design. I currently have a couple of personal web sites being hosted for free by angelfire. If I want to host these more professioanlly, ie without the adverts, and possibly create a couple of websites for people to establish my cv, what is the most cost effective way of doing this? The outlay needs to be minimum and reseller packages are too costly and large for where I currently am. Should I just host each website independently on say Fasthost? Or have one site, and various sub-domains that different domain names can point to?

Thank you. Ruby

Re: Host each website separately or as one?

Im unsure with the sites you have if they are informational or for commercial reasons, If you have multiple sites many of the non UK providers will allow you to host multiple sites on one package.

So if you have 5 sites instead a £5-£20 per site to get hosted you can pay £10 to host multiple sites on the same shared server

I know I am only touching on the point so it depends what type of sites you are looking to have hosted as my point of view would be differnt depending if commercial verus information type sites and amount of traffic they receive

Cool Re: Host each website separately or as one?

If you can't afford and or don't have enough customers to be a reseller with hostgator.com I would recommend you go to godaddy.com they are only $4.95 a month per domain. But if you wanted you could mask the domains, so that you could host all of your websites on the same hosting account. For example you pay $4.95 per month, and then you add a mask to the domains you want to mask, then all of your domains mask to a certain place on your hosting account. If you want more info I would be glad to explain it to you better. Just reply or PM me.

Re: Host each website separately or as one?

We are a UK provider and can offer you multi-site and domain hosting on one account for £3.99 per month, or we can give you an agents discount if you wish to have a separate account for each client. If you need more help or information just PM me,

Re: Host each website separately or as one?

Thank you for all your replies.

Basically at the moment I want a good cheap set up that I can run my own & a couple of sites I am doing for friends on. So from the above advice it seems that the best plan may be to host these few sites from one domain. Thus I buy a domain name for each site & forward it (masked) to a certain place on my hosting account.

However I'm also trying to get my head around how much it would cost to host client's websites, so that I can get an idea of what I will need to charge to cover my time & expenses.

So something like godaddy seems like a good possibility for the moment, but Remo if you could give me an idea of who would host multiple sites for approx £10 a month I would appreciate it.

I normally use a free host for my own sites. Hence I'm very green re all this.

Thank you all for your advice.

Ruby

Re: Host each website separately or as one?

I will host each site for £2/month if you provide your own domain name. I am also in the business of web design and i remember when i started hosting was a daunting thing. We have a service whereby clients can submit a job for us to do e.g setup a new account, change a password, etc etc or they can do it themselves via a simple control panel. I feel this would really help you and would take the stress out of hosting for you.

feel free to drop me a bell with any questions you have either via my profile here or via the website at www.dewetha.co.uk/

hope to hear from you soon.

kind regards,
