mail servers only
Are there companies that only host mail servers for people. I want a domain name only for mail accounts, is this possible? If so, please name a few for me to go and check out.

Re: mail servers only
Depends, if you want to use it for sending our mass amounts of email like mailing lists, then just do a google search for mailing list services.
If its just email for personal usage, then pretty much most web hosting providers would be suitable, just choose a hosting package with enough space and mailbox allowances that you want and your done.
You dont have to use a "Web hosting account" for a website. We have quite a few customers who take out hosting just to use it for email only, and they all have webmail access to it all the time, and some have found it to be actually cheaper than specialist email only services.

Re: mail servers only
Quicker, if mail services is what you need, you may consider mail hosting options from someone like sibername.com, I guess the price of the package depends on the amount of email accounts you want to have.

I think this is different Hunter, I mean this goes together with a hosting account from serverpoint.com.

Re: mail servers only
wesh you can't exactly call web hosting cheaper than specialist email services, when you see gmail giving out 6GB accounts with up to 100 of them not to mention all the bundled stuff with google apps like docs start page calendar. And best of all google apps is free. But I do understand why some use web hosting companies for email I just don't think its the wise choice and its certainly not cheaper.

Re: mail servers only
Sam
I didnt say web hosting was cheaper than specialist mail services, so please dont mis-interpret what I have said.
Gogle mail is webmail on somebody else's domain name and falls into the same category as hotmail/yahoo etc where your dependant on somebody else for your mail domain.
I was basing what I said on quickers needs, "I want a domain name only for mail accounts"
He didnt ask for the who has the biggest webmail provider as he wants email usage with a domain name, not somebody else's domain name.

Re: mail servers only
Sam
I said that some customers have found it cheaper, I didnt say myself that it is cheaper.
(Thats the mis-interpretation)
Google app's? Who's asking about app's? Quicker is asking about email only.

Re: mail servers only
I have seen that UtropicMedia.net provide email hosting. They offer Webmail, Desktop Clients, Cell Phones and PDAs. Their security features look nice as well.

Re: mail servers only
I know that many companies provide web mail services that are included into their package plans. Say GlobalTap.com provides them a lot. I think it's very convenient to use shared package plan with email services in it. You don'r need to pay extra monet for that.
