Re: looking for web hosting
In which case, look for hosting that provides;
- MySQL Database
- PHP (version 4 or 5)
- Apache Web Server with mod_rewrite enabled
- Linux
You might need to contact them in order to find out some of the information above (particularly mod_rewrite capability).
Are you looking at UK, US or elsewhere hosting?
WESH could provide everything you need if you're after UK hosting.
Otherwise, scroll through our hosting forums - there's plenty of threads discussing particular hosting companies.

Re: looking for web hosting
A2Hosting.com offers an up-to-date version of Drupal as a quick install through Fantastico. If you'd like to install the latest development release, their shared web hosting packages come loaded with everything you need - Apache 2.2, MySQL 4 or MySQL 5, PostgreSQL 8 and PHP 5 compiled as an Apache module with access to php.ini settings through .htaccess .

I actually think they're quite expensive as they offer you very little, but it's all based on wants on needs, theres no point spending lots on bandwith etc. that your never going to use.
I've alwasy like servage, and there clustered server set up produces top-notch reliability.

Re: looking for web hosting
They are not saying unlimited space, unlimited bandwith and for free, then how can you say they are overselling and so bad.
I subscribed with drupalvaluehosting five month ago, no problems at all... Their support is Very fast and very professional.

Re: looking for web hosting
I host a couple of drupal 6.1 sites with http://www.lcn.com using their 'Dynamic' package. It's fast, easy to setup and their support seems pretty good. The Diskspace is currently capped at 500MB though, this may be an issue. But even so well worth considering in my opinion.

Re: looking for web hosting
ServerPoint.com offers Drupal web hosting. It can be interesting for the OP as this company is optimized for this web application.

Things dont have to be "unlimited" or "Free" to be oversold. Server hard drive space is not too different from the same hard drive space you have inside your home computer in terms of how space is calculated and provided.
So if you compare what is available in the hard drive market today, then work out how many hard drives it would take to provide 1 customer, then multiply that by the number of customers per-server, you will see that its just not possible in "typical rack mount servers"
It is possible if using Network attached storage, but again the same principle applies, how many disk's are required to store all the info against what the company are charging for it, even just for 1 customer paying $10 a month for the equivalent of 4x500GB hard drives, how long would it take before they made any profit? They dont because its being over sold.

Sam, dont you just love seeing the extreme end of the overselling market? Almost make me laugh when I see some companies blatantly trying to take customers for a ride on the assumption the customer wont have a clue what they are buying.
Its quite shameful actually, but funny none-the-less.

Re: Looking for Web Hosting
ICDsoft is the best hosting company around. There hosting plans lack impressive bandwidth like other hosts (bandwidth that you don't need, may I add), but there support makes up for it. Each question is usually answered in under five minutes, and if not they tell you they're working on it. Miles better than any other host I've had.
If you prefer something in the UK, I've heard some good things about WESH-UK. (The sponsor of this forum)
