Re: SEO web hosting?

plus of course, if your site is in the UK, and aimed at UK visitors, this will also benefit you
(Although not documented, it has been seen to be the case more often than not)

Re: SEO web hosting?

I was interested in this thread simply because we get frequent requests for multiple shared hosting accounts on multiple C Class IPs which is really annoying at times to say the least. Its all myth based .. the link between a site's IP address and SEO. As some form of authoritative help on the issue, I turned to Matt Cutts' blog (Mr Google himself) and found this ... http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/myth-b...-ip-addresses/

Hid blog is a must read if you are serious about SEO and Google tbh.

Re: SEO web hosting?

That post was about links TO your site. The question here is where YOUR site is hosted. Changing IP addresses can get you penalized, but that's not exactly something that hosts do everyday... So the idea of SEO hosting of SEO friednly hosting is just non-sense!

Sorry but that is utterly incorrect.

The essence of Matt Cutts post is that the IP address on which a site is hosted has no bearing on page rank whatsoever, changing IP addresses makes no difference either.

I'm sorry, I should have been more specific.
Frequently changing your IP address (every few weeks) can cause SEO related problems.

Re: SEO web hosting?

I see that the essence of the myth that Matt Cutts is trying to dispel is that a site's IP address has no bearing on SEO at all. If it did, in reality shared hosting would be of no use to almost anyone, and there would be no point in server clustering, failover systems or load balancing. The IP address really has no affect on SEO. Its an age old myth which has stuck with a great many people.

Re: SEO web hosting?

He didn't say IP addresses have no affect in the way Google rank websites.
He said a website is not worse off by having the same IP address as many others.
Or, in reverse, you're not better off if you have a unique IP address.

Actually, Google handles virtually hosted domains and their links just the same as domains on unique IP addresses
I don't wish to sound argumentative but that cannot be partially true if he says it is true. Many people selling SEO would dispute this, its part n parcel of their marketing strategy hence the many requests we see for multiple shared hosting accounts on different C Class IPs from SEO merchants who up-sell them.

Google does look at IP addresses for the sake of its persistent connections for trawling (being nice to web server resources), one or more sites on one IP linking to another on the same IP just does not = a penalty. Remember that most major hosts will hold around 15,000 sites or more on a single IP address (a reverse IP check will show this), its just not feasible for Google to penalise in this way. If there is an example to prove the myth, please let's see it.

It would be better for the OP to focus on not getting penalised for paid/reciprocal links, because that is the sort of thing that Google does penalise, and to instead focus on good links within articles and page content that are in context with their own content (related blog articles are a good example of that).

Re: SEO web hosting?

It was really hard to find because of the lack of necessity to prove it but there could be nothing better than an actual video of Matt Cutts dispelling this myth and drawing attention to the real issue of mulitple site ownership .. unique and value content ... http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...60678227172395 - so glad I found it though

Re: SEO web hosting?

You guys keep replying to my comments with something completely irrelevant. So before my comments get taken out of context (more than they already have) let me clarify: I do not think it is a problem for many websites to share a single IP address. It just wouldn't make any sense. I agree with the comments you have all made above. This is just another myth and we all know it.

What I did say was that, FREQUENTLY CHANGING your IP address can cause problems as far as SEO in concerned. IE.: moving your website from host to host every few weeks can affect how your website is indexed.

I'll leave you guys to talk about the myths if you like, but honestly, it's a waste of time... we all know it's not true.
