Re: unzipped files on FTP server

smartftp is a good ftp program.

And servers don't unzip files - you have to unzip them before they're put on the server.

Yes, servers do unzip files, I do it all the time. If you have a cpanel you can login to, go to the file manager, click the zip file and click extract! Done!

Yeah PHP have a zip and unzip function i'm sure.
but it's a lot of hassle don't you think?
most FTP programs allow you to select everything you want to send easily

Much longer upload though Alex. Ummm, Who are you hosting with? Most website host have some sort of online control panel with a file manager....even Godaddy has that. Tell me your host please.

No one disagreed Daniel. I agree with you. SmartFTP is a good FTP editor for Windows, and Transmit for the Mac. I was talking about the members hosting control panel.

Re: unzipped files on FTP server

Man, we have asked you this question and for some reason you keep avoiding the answer. You should have a cpanel. Does not matter wither you are on a shared server or not. Even crappy hosts have cpanels. Please answer, where are you hosted?

Re: unzipped files on FTP server

I used to upload zip files and unzip it before i found out that my control panel could do it. zJunior I think this can help you.But bear in mind that when unzipping, you need to use the CHMOD (755 or 644) option. Else you won't be able to modify nor to delete your unzipped files.
Unfortunately i'm not home, I could have send you the script I used.
But you can have a look here
