Domain name problem

Hi, I have a strange little problem.
I registered a domain name with one agent and hosting with another, I then pointed the domain to the hosting name servers,
When I try to set up the domain to use with the hosting I get an error saying IPS not determined, make sure you have registered the domain correctly.

Ive contacted the domain registrants and they say the domain is pointing to the correct nameservers, ive contacted the hosting and they say the correct zone files are installed. Both are blaming the other, I then contacted nominet to see if they could through any light on this and they didnt even bother to reply!

Does anyone know how I can sort this out because this has been going on for 3 weeks now and neither party seems to know whats going on. (I've checked the domain on whois and it says nameservers are correct but registration isn't complete, if this is the problem then its a disgrace the domain registrants havn't done their job properly especially after Ive been in contact with them twice about it)

Re: Domain name problem

IPS tag is where you want the domain to reside (i.e. for payment).

Re: Domain name problem

Then the problem is that the nameservers are new. Therefore ip's will need to be entered also, they should be given to you from whoever you host with. Just ask them for the nameserver ip's.

Re: Domain name problem

I still think its ns1.darkenhosting.us and ns2.darkenhosting.us

They should of given you IP's also to go with those.

Re: Domain name problem

Hi would this be the problem as I requested the IPs from the hosters and they have just emailed me them - should I change the nameservers again

I just changed them to

69.72.161.250ns1.darkenhosting.us
69.72.161.251ns2.darkenhosting.us

which is what they have just given me - when i did this i was told the nameservers may not exist.

Re: Domain name problem

no lol =p

ns1.darkenhosting.us
ns2.darkenhosting.us

Are the nameservers to put in the boxes.
Then put the IP's in the other boxes, theyre seperate but they correspond to the nameservers.

Re: Domain name problem

lol sorry, a bit thick here,

so your saying put
ns1.darkenhosting.us in nameserver 1
ns2.darkenhosting.us in nameserver 2
69.72.161.250 in nameserver 3
69.72.161.251 in nameserver 4

I just tried to enter the IPS addresses and it won't let me, says they will prompt me for them later (and they don't)

Re: Domain name problem

you need to use the actual names.... not ip addresses.

The problem actually lies with your HOSTING COMPANY... and here is proof:-
Code: Select all
C:\Documents and Settings\Rob>nslookup
Default Server:
Address: 192.168.2.1
> server ns1.darkenhosting.us
Default Server: ns1.darkenhosting.us
Address: 69.72.161.250
> tradclean.co.uk
Server: ns1.darkenhosting.us
Address: 69.72.161.250
*** ns1.darkenhosting.us can't find tradclean.co.uk: Server failed
>
nslookup also fails when using the secondary DNS server for lookups..... quite simply, they are passing blame when it clearly lies at their own door. Paste that above in an email and tell them to pull their finger out.

Re: Domain name problem

Hi, im not sure what you mean, could you explain where the problem is with the hosting, then I can pass it on to them (I didn't understand the quote). - I can't understand why they have a problem though because they say they register all their domains using 123reg and then change the nameservers and don't have a problem, thanks

Re: Domain name problem

djme....

basically, from a command prompt, I used the nslookup command which allows me to lookup dns records at specific dns servers.

I tried to lookup the dns record for tradclean.co.uk at YOUR HOST'S name servers and got nothing back.... they are to blame.

Post the contents of what I pasted into an email to them and they'll understand.

Re: Domain name problem

I have done what you said. Do you think they will be able to sort it out easily as I need this domain (leaflets with the domain are already printed)

easy peasy.... it's a no-brainer if you know what you are doing.... and lets face it... they are hosts so they should have some clue (one would hope)

All they have to do is to add a DNS entry to their Name servers.

Re: Domain name problem

I got a reply from the hosting

"if the nameservers are not set correctly, how can you
expect your domain to be found??"

but it is set up on the nameservers they say
