Hosting and Domains

Hi,

This is more of a little survey and an ongoing argument i have had with some people for a long time.

Question:

What do you require from a hosting/Domain registration company? And what type of support should you expect?

My answer to this question has always been:

I believe a hosting/Domain registration company should be able to offer what it sells, the site doesnt need to be over the top with lots of upsell tactics such as www.123-reg.co.uk or www.namesco.com, clear and simple and you are shown exactly what you will and more importantly what you will not get with each package.

Support should always be fast and efficent with a solid technical team, I dont believe that trained monkeys on the phone, using "Hello Sir, hows your day today" "can i help with anything else" is not vital to quality support and it should always be: Polite but above all else technically accurate and able to help with all queries in a fast and efficient manner.

What do others think?

Re: Hosting and Domains

I absolutely agree. I got my domain long before I got the hosting. once I was ready my hosting worked closely with my domain name provider and got all things arranged. Since then, my hosting company is absolutely wonderful. It is almost as if they fingured out I was new and have helped every step of the way.
I know that is why I selected them was reputation on the web. There are to many fly by night hosting and domain name companies around. You do have to be careful.

Re: Hosting and Domains

Totally agree! My hosting is through a friend of mine (BluePhyre) so his support is very good :P I send my design customers his way if they don't have hosting or problems with their hosts and not a complaint yet. We both kinda started off at the same time and it's nice to see his client list grow every year.

Re: Hosting and Domains

I agree. I must say a hosting provider needs to be able to give you what they claim. Which lots of time does not happen. Godaddy.com, is a great hosting provider. As is hostgator.com, and site5.com. But I have had the great times of trying those not so great companies...you know the ones that answer their sales line but never answer their support line...hehe.

Since then I have wised up, call both lines and make sure they seem helpful and don't have a horrible American accent...hehe

Re: Hosting and Domains

I also think the tech support must be technically efficient like, for example ahosting.biz. Their tech staff is quality. They know their job perfectly well.

Re: Hosting and Domains

ive had some pretty bad expierences with hosting providers, webfusion had some big problems with what appeared to be untrained staff and 1and1.. well it got answered by someone in the phillipines and their email support was pretty rubbish as well.

Re: Hosting and Domains

I think the best thing is to get a personal support agent assigned to you.
