SiteSell

Just wondered if anyone has any experience or knowledge of hosting with SiteSell/SiteBuildIt - www.sitesell.com. I’m having an argument with someone; he says that what they offer for the money is fantastic, much more than just hosting, the whole web building package, they’re very reliable, provide great service, have a high Alexa ranking, blah blah blah. And I say I don’t doubt that’s true but I take issue with the fact that they don’t seem to give a hoot about validation or accessibility (within their own site or within the tutorials and guides they provide).

Anyone have an opinion? If not, no worries, I’ll just keep arguing on my own!

Re: SiteSell

Thank you for that well-thought-out and constructive assessment Ryan

I lived in Las Vegas for a few years actually ('97-'01), not that that has anything to do with it, just thought I'd mention it! (hope I won't get in trouble now for going off topic, I'll try and be good from now on, can't promise though)

How'd you like Vegas? Personally, I'm looking forward to leaving. I'll just have to start playing poker online I love casinos.

Re: SiteSell

Yeah, I loved it there, but I always had this slight underlying homesickness for England (I think it was homesickness, or it might just have been too many platefulls at the Paris buffet). I miss video poker.

Re: SiteSell

Heh, their website was annoying and difficult to navigate, so I couldn't actually find what their prices were like... if I was going for an off-the-shelf solution that I gather they're offering, I'd probably stick with osCommerce or their peers; but I suppose it would all come down to cost and quality of service!

Re: SiteSell

My sentiments exactly, you have to plough your way through an awful lot of hype on their site to get to the actual information. They charge a flat fee of $299 per year for hosting whatever size site and that includes all the other stuff they offer. The only reason I'm even bothering to look check into them a bit more is because of their good Alexa ranking and a few people I know who rave about them (not professional web designers/developers I might add!!).

To be honest, I don't think I need most of the other stuff they include (or what I do need I can get elsewhere), so I'll probably just go for regular hosting with someone like Site5 which I've seen recommended on here a few times.

Re: SiteSell

Ugh... I despise seeing things like that. "All-in-one" web design means it's horrible. Domains and hosting are the only things that can work together. Anything coding your website for you belongs in the trash.

Re: SiteSell

Yes, in fairness you can upload your own hand coded pages to them, and still benefit from their various research tools etc, but quite frankly I don't feel like giving any business to a company that doesn't care about standards compliance or accessibility and needs to hype everything up to get people in.

Re: SiteSell

Their "Research tools" sound like they should go in the trash too, lol. Good content and good code means you're on your way to a bright future.
