Should the User gain control?

I was just wondering if yall gave your customers access to thier ftp accounts. I have had problems with this in the past (people accidentally erasing stuff and messing with things they ought not to mainly) but most people want to be able to host images and such off of thier server as well. I was just wondering what everyone else does so that I can better understand what I should be doing.

Of course you give them control.....

How else can they screw things up?

C'mon... if clients didnt screw things up once in a while, we'd lose out on some extra cash!

LOL

Just kidding..... but they should really have the control.

Never!

Build a CMS if necessary to give the customer limited control of specific functions.

I give all my customers full Cpanel control, they're happy.

I have built my own system that gives the customer control over all kinds of things, images, pages, and content. But I am not giving out the FTP information because I have had 2 clients in the past delete their www folder.

I only give it to them if they ask for it. And of course I warn them that I'll have to charge to fix anything that gets messed up.

That is a great idea Catalyst I have never thought about doing that before. I will have to adopt that feature. If you don't mind me asking do you charge your regular hourly fee, or a different price.

Regular rates. Of course for rush work I charge double, which could be a factor if they really screwed their site and need it fixed right away. Largely this is my subtle way of saying "it's your site but i'd leave it to the professional if i were you".
