Create a New Font?

How do I create a new font?

I assume it is a case of creating images then turning it into .tff

Does anyone know the exact process?

Re: Create a New Font?

First of all, this new font will only work on your computer until it is patented and made into something that others can use, such as a Microsoft Word utility file. And in addition to this, we will not be able to see these letters online, since unknown fonts always seem to appear as plain Arial text.

Re: Create a New Font?

This seems a rather lengthy but fun way of making fonts - handwriting your own font.

Otherwise there's the digital method

And regarding bobby12's comment on needing a patent, that's just not true. Just make your font and submit it to all the free font sites out there!

However, bobby12 is correct in saying that it would not be an appropriate font to use for the web, since most (if not all) users will not have the font installed.

Re: Create a New Font?

You could always use sIRF to incorperate it onto your site...

See the example page

And then you can see the overview here

It's becoming a more and more populer technique and you've probably come across it once or twice (maybe not even realising).

It degrades perfectly, and is accesible by all mediums (screen readers, those brail pad things and much more.... although the vast majority of people already fail to cater to them).

It's even endorsed by Matt May, Joe Clark (W3C) and many other high fliers.

Also i've heard CSS3 allows custom typesets... however CSS3 support won't be commonplace for atleast 3 years (i mean, how many people are still using old versions of IE and how olds that?)
