[SOLVED] help on favicon.ico

i am currently designing a website, (slowly but surley it is coming along) and i wonder if anyone could ask how i can put a favicon.ico file onto it.

If you are not sure what i mean, which im guessing you actually do, it is the little icon located to the right of the address, for example http://www.webforumz.com/favicon.ico is the icon file for webforumz

sorry if i am seeming a bit patronising, just want to make sure everybody knows because it is realy bugging me lol.

i have got the image on photoshop at the right size, i just want to know how to make in into a .ico file and then how to insert it on my site.

I had the same problem, i have loaded the favicon.ico to my root directory. but when i try visiting the location www.pradeepnair.com/favicon.ico. It gives me an error which says " Forbidden" Data files must be stored on the same site they are linked from.

Some one pls help me out with this.

<link rel="shortcut icon "href="favicon.ico">

in the head of the an actual web page document?

I recommend BOTH of these lines of code for better compatability on more browsers:-

Thank you Nortus and Rob for the feedback. I have included both the lines of code. But my problem is that though the favicon.ico file is available in the root directory still i cannot access it by going to www.pradeepnair.com/favicon.ico. as it gives the above mentioned error. But when i try it on other websites like www.msn.com/favicon.ico you can view the icon image. I hope i am clear with my question.

It works for me as well but I have to open it in IE (I'm on FF) as oppose to the MSN one ... it opens in FF with no problem.
