Logo design

Well this is my attempt at logo/text for my site. What are your thoughts. Perhaps a little 'word heavy'?

Re: Logo design

I like this a lot. Love the type, its great work. I would get rid of the .co.uk though. I just think it would look better without to be honest. There is something impressive about big bold logo's with very little colour but they are hard to get right. You've done a sterling job on this mate. There's a typo there by the way, there's no e in 'truely', its truly.

Good work, I'm sorry I haven't got any suggestions to help you improve it.

Pete.

Yep, I think it's fab, I don't think it matters that there's a lot of words although if you have the logo quite small it's difficult to read the smallest print.

Re: Logo design

Oh be honest and blame the whiskey. BTW I like the logo. My only complaint is the copy seems a bit "soft" but that could just be the background causing that. I would agree and lose the .co.uk and make the Matt... text larger.

Re: Logo design

I did add a small amount of blur to the Mattoconnor.co.uk. Loose it you reckon? Make the 'Matt' even bigger? It certainly wont be a problem remembering my name when visiting the site....

Re: Logo design

well fill more left to right if you remove the co.uk part. Or leave it as is. Could work either way.

Re: Logo design

I think the blur looks good, but you definitely should not make the Matt bigger! I think it would "dominate" the picture too much! The co.uk should leave, but that little saying under it should definitely stay under the "t" and the "oconnor", maybe the oconnor a bit bigger and the small text under both t's?

Re: Logo design

its good, but rather than get rid of the '.co.uk' set the kearning of the small type underneath so that you stretch it out to fall in line with the end of '.co.uk'. It will give the small type more room to breathe/be read and also make the logo balance.

Isn't that when people contort their face into silly shapes?

Re: Logo design

And another one - 'contort'. Spot the well spoken English amongst us.

(no idea what it means Vanessa)

Re: Logo design

Contort means: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/contort

And I was making a joke about the kerning (kearning?), really referring to gurning: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/filmnetwork/A14157443

I do wish everyone had a good grasp of language, like wot I does

(I don't know what kerning/kearning is though!)

Re: Logo design

Its to do with the space between the letters of a font. Its similar to, but shouldn't be confused with, tracking. Tracking creates an even amount of space between letters regardless of the characters whereas kerning alters the space between letters based on character pairs. With tracking no matter what two letters are next to each other the space will be the same, with kerning depending which characters are next to each other the amount of whitespace will differ. Its one of the reason why its difficult to make a really nice font.

Pete.

Re: Logo design

Ah, so it's like what I would have called proportional spacing?

Re: Logo design

Yeah, basically though I don't think it is necessarily proportional. That said having never made a font, I would never know. I often play with tracking but I usually leave kerning alone.
