Text l ooks bad in PS 7

Well, I now own a copy of PS 7 and I'm having a bit of trouble with text issues.

The first problem, well the main one really, is that text looks scratchy, jagged, just bad all around. Setting to smooth, strong, crisp and none (none looks the worst) doesn't help and actually makes it look worse.

The font is Bickley Script, and I had it on my old pc and used it to create one of my web sites. So what could be the problem?? It really does look awful unless I do something to it like warp and bevel the text, which I really don't want to have to do for everything.

Previous version of PS was 5.5.. if that makes any difference.

Any ideas??

No, Photoshop 7. I realized what I was doing a few minutes ago... embarrassing too. I had the text layer underneath a black overlay I'm using for a graphic. Sheesh. Moved the type layer above the overlay, and presto... nice text. lol

...I'm such a genius.
