I have a question about legality of the photos that I can use on a website. I know that I can not take pictures from something like Google images and use those in my commercial site.

But if I am making a site for a company that sells a specific brand of a product, can I use the pictures from the product site on my company site?

For example, I am making a website for a company that sells products from a number of different sellers. One of them is Mid Continent Cabinetry

Can I take the photos that are on that page and use them in my site?



Also is there any place where I can get free photos on the web that I don’t have to credit, to use on websites? A lot of the pictures that I use eventually come off my websites once my customers get some for it, but sometimes they stay and that’s a problem if I take them from other sites.

You might try emailing the company asking for permission. It's technically not legal to do, but by emailing them, you'll get the correct answer. If they say yes, print out the email and put it in a safe place!

Check out the websites of the companies you want to use photos of. Sometimes they have a page for vendors, or advertising etc. If they do not, then you will need to get written permission. Photos are copyrighted.

So I can use the pictures on stock xchng with out credting them, unless it says otherwise?

I went through the site, and just wanted to make sure that was right so I didn't get sued or something.

I like iStockPhoto.com. They're not free, but they've got a massive selection of great photography.
