Band Logo, Vectors?

Hi guys need some help here.

I'm trying to replicate The Sisters Of Mercy band logo. Everything i can do apart from the zig zag circle around the main logo.
Have you got any ideas on how i can achieve this? Should i use a vector somehow. I've tried to think of lots of different way to do. But i have to say for now I'm completely stumped.

PLAIN LOGO

RED ARROWS POINT TO THE ZIG ZAG CIRCLE I'M TALKING ABOUT

So guys hows it done?

THX.

Byron.

EDIT: Here's one I tried to do useing the "Magic Wand" tool, then filling the selection. It looks ok but you can seen that the filled area Is a little rough looking. How would you make the zig zag line look smooth (with a vector, and if so how?)....Or do you think I'm being too anal about it?

Just view the graphic at full size and see the zig zag line.

As stated before the data loss, this could be done manually by doing a 1/4 of it then replicating the rest.

Adobe Illustrator (or like programs) would be the best to achieve this. As you can do one zig-zag, then copy it and then just use the repeat feature to repeat the process all around the circle. Should work out perfectly. Then if you need to import it into Photoshop, you can copy and paste it as a smart object, then even resizing will help eliminate the data loss.
