RPG = Role-playing games. Well it is a game you play in a forum like this or separate script. See http://www.text-rpg.com they have different kinds there.

It is pretty popular, but mostly appeals to those who like to read or write as opposed to just hack and kill like Diablo.

The first link I gave tells all about it: http://www.text-rpg.com but in brief, text RPGs uses Forums, similar to this or individual scripts that form a way for you to both create a character and participate in a world set in either a medieval or sci-fi setting. Some text rpgs are more simple where you just have to make a choice or vote and watch the story unfold.
