Arrow scoffshop.com

This is a website I designed for a friend of mine. He recently got it reviewed by a professional web designer, and he was really vague with green eyes

One thing he did say was about my Iframes. He didnt say what I should do to fix it up though...

Please, any and all advice will be greatly appreciated! Look it over and let me know what you think! Im trying to start doing this on a professional level eventually.

Re: scoffshop.com

Hey man,

Felt compelled to post as I'm a skater myself...

The good.
  • I love the page body graphic.. It obviously works well with the subject of the site etc...
  • Text is easy to read and resizes reletively well.
The bad.
  • It all seems too constricted... In those boxes...Seeing as skateboarding is all about freedom I think this goes aginst the over all feel of the site.
  • Your navigation gives no feedback what so ever. The user needs to be made aware that they are floating over a link. The little pointy finger helps but it's not enough. It needs an underline or colour change.
  • Come on... Times New Roman? Rebel a little man!!!
There are A LOT of problems with this site, I'm not gonna lie to you. When I looked at the code I found possibly the most severe problem with the site. You did not decaler a DOCTYPE. This is very, very important. Without a Doctype the browsers do not no what they are rendering and you WILL NOT get your markup to validate.

What I think this site needs is a simple XHTML and CSS design that flows and thus incorporates the spirit of skateboarding. Go for Simple streamlined, semantic markup and give us something special.

3/10

Re: scoffshop.com

I dont know what a DOCTYPE is personally. Can someone explain that? As for the constriction, it was what my client wanted with his design. We also tried to design it so that most browsers, and resolutions can view it. Im currently remaking it to fix many of the problems I have encountered.

I am also getting rid of the Iframes forever. Its time to design with the div layers from now on!

So I am guessing that your mark of 3/10 was purely bassed upon the times new roman, nav feedback, Doctype, and boxes? Is there anything more on your mind, or is this all I have to fix to get a 10?

Re: scoffshop.com

I very, very rarely give out 10s so don't feel bad if you don't get one...

View the source on this page...The very fist line is the DOCTYPE declaration. You must have one of these... do some reading into XHTML and CSS. Check out this post. A lot of the things I tell this guy will also apply to you.

Re: scoffshop.com

Dont worry, I dont expect a 10 at all. I just want to learn, and I have. I contacted my client, and I am going to redesign it with better syntax, and layout. Ill repost here once I get that new site up.

Thx! I appreciate it. Dont worry about being harsh at all. I would like to know what I can do to improve!
