Re: dreamcolors.tk
White text on a black backgorund... in flash.
That, as I've said before, is like handing in an essay written on a car!

Re: dreamcolors.tk
I think the Flash is really pretty and clever...the butterfly graphics are nice. I don't usually like black backgrounds but I think it works well with all the colour of everything else in this case.

Oh, I'm supposed to offer suggestions for improvement? Sorry. I haven't been here long. I just thought after what you said seemed to be so negative, I think the site looks quite good.

Re: dreamcolors.tk
i like the graphics. the layout kind of floats
if your advertising to do flash a flash site does make sense. your transitions between sections are sort of "boingy" when the style of the design suggest a more graceful animation. try easing in and out of your tweens. |

No, I meant you missed my point about the flash... Sure it looks pretty but it's about as practical as a cheese screwdriver.

Re: dreamcolors.tk
most of the animations run incredibly slowly on my mac. i know it's common knowledge that mac flash player as crap compared to the pc one, but it just means as a designer you need to take this into consideration. especially as you seem to be aiming towards more creative clients, so it's quite likely they may well use a mac too.
my advice would be only use flash for what is absolutely essential, IE cannot be done in HTML. you are obviously an accomplished flash coder/designer, however unfortunatrly that doesn't always make a great website deigner. |

Re: dreamcolors.tk
user intent drives functionality/practicality. for an average business a total flash site isnt the way to go, but in more instances than you might imagine... some companies want more than simple delivery of information (see mountain dew) to support their brand. it's a huge market. iv'e made tons.
is it valuble? anytime you can make a clients content compelling and enhance a brand there is value. flash is also more consitent in more browsers than common markup is and you can use a flat file or database to update the site and make it less of a pain to manage. lets not turn this into a flash v css argument. i use both well in there place and understand the advantages of both. the key is to define user intent and bring the most value possible. |

Re: dreamcolors.tk
Fact of the matter is... Using flash to display normal text is the wrong way to go about things.

Re: dreamcolors.tk
It's not just my opinion though. It's not like I'm saying "i don't like that you've used flash to display this text." There is an actual usability and practicality issue here.
If you require a plugin (regardless of how wide spread the plugin is) to read white text on a black background it is bad accessibility End of story. Flash for animations is one thing... you can't make them in nice accessible HTML but text... should just be text. Using flash you gain no extra usablity... In fact, because you can't increase or decrease the text size, you lose some. Why are you having a problem seeing this?

Re: dreamcolors.tk
If you don't like white text on black background how come your site has that? *confused* I see your point about flash for text though. perhaps you could make a top bit and left bit in flash and then text for the middle bit or something. Split the flash up a bit.

Re: dreamcolors.tk
no no i hear your argument. and for the most part agree.
plugins are a stumbling block that we have to deal with. and your right. for the disabled the flash movie is almost useless. it is just that his audience (i have to assume) is art directors who need guys who make flash movies. truth told, i would make an html site and link to movies(when i had my folio up its what i did do), but that is my decision and i can see why a young designer would want to pimp a site out if he wants an agency to let him do that for money. does it reach a broad audience? perhaps not. but in the case of a selective audience it can be more compelling to use just flash. the big question is, is it ever ok to make a site one big flash movie? on rare occasions yes. when accesability is not the first priority and making someone stand up and take notice is. |

Re: dreamcolors.tk
Yes, Appologies for that.
I did make a critical statement though and I stand by it. Ease back on the flash. By all means use it for your animations but for text... Try and use text.
