Re: feedback needed

Code: Select all
17Lemons.co.uk
markkimber.com
alfred-wallis.co.uk
www.17lemons.com">
That meant to say '.com'?
There's nothing at the .com address.

Re: feedback needed

Hi, in Firefox the navigation menu and the list of websites in the white box on the bottom are pressed up against the left side. In IE and Opera there's margin or padding on the left but in Firefox there isn't. Just wanted to point that out.

Re: feedback needed

I only count 15 lemons in that photo... lol... just messin around.

Anyway, I am not fan due to being a static site with static text, tables and way to huge of a head section. That photo is simply to massive.

----- Of course, when we build your website we take into consideration accessibility and usability issues------

What about your own site? And all the current sites in your portfolio? Every single site uses tables. There are accessibility and usability issues with every site. You need a lot of work in this area.

Overall opinion...

Long way to go before you start claiming to be up to date with any of the modern standards. I don't believe any of your claims on that site based on your own site issues and your portfolio.

Re: feedback needed

Wow, what a gorgeous website! A++ on appearance. Did use fibonacci ratios on the top row on purpose? You really have a great eye for color and form. The Firefox problem is still there. Also your widths jump around slightly from page to page in FF. You really need to get up to speed on pure css-styled html. It appears that coding is not a real strong point for you. The pages load too slowly, too, especially after the first page, even considering that big .jpg (and I can understand why you want that unoptimized -- for me, it's worth the wait, at least the first time). I've never used a Dreamweaver system but that reloading of what should be instantaneous background patterns is an easily remedied problem. There seem to be a caching problem.

Re: feedback needed

The first thing I did was count the lemons too! I was shocked that there wernt 17! :o

Anyway, the site looks nice, maybe IMO contrasts too much with the light and the darkness.
The text is a bit hard to read, the black text on gray background.
You need to work on the SEO of the site. The pages need different titles to reflect what the page is about, you need to use meta tags. Make use of headers aswell.
The images you have that say "about us" and "sevices" for example could be easily done with CSS and not images and therefore would improve the readability of the site.
The images that you have on there are huge...
- width - 430px
- height - 295px
- size - 160.12 KB
That should be around 15 - 20 kb max...
And the smaller ones that are 27kb should be 1 - 2kb
You should optimise these images so your website loads quicker.
You may want to validate your code too.. I havnt checked but I know it doesnt just by looking at the properties of the picture
ALT TEXT - MISSING
There is no validation on your form, empty forms can be sent.
You have even used a formmail script from formmail.com can you not create a PHP script for your form?

I hope I have given you enough to work with...

Craig

Re: feedback needed

I apologize -- for some reason the forum formatting commands are not working for me. Everything runs together and I can't use the buttons. Personally I think the visual impact of that crystal-clear photo is worth the wait. It's caching fine now. You need to rename it though -- it's too obvious you took it from a cooking site. What does bugs me is that the diagonal background pattern on the middle bar has to reload every page. You should realize that you can set a 16x16 pixel gif (actually you could probably do it as a 6x6 px) as a repeating background and get exactly the same graphic with instantaneous loading. Heck I'll even do it for you. Because of my formatting problems I'll put it in a different reply. This will save you 48KB. PS There are 16 lemons.

Gah I can't upload attachments either. I'll put the .gif on imageshack and give you a link in the next reply.

Re: feedback needed

thanks for your help everyone, some very useful bits and pieces!

MasonBarge - im getting rather confused! ive managed to right click on your .gif and save it. What do I do next?

glad you like the site, there is clearly lots I need to sort out! Do you think I need to make it smaller, I have a huge screen so it looks fairly small to me. I have not managed to see it yet on another monitor.

The shot of the lemons I took actually - not from a cooking site! (nice compliemnt though! There are 17Lemons on the plate they just didn't get in shot. I am going to temporarly change the image to another, let me know which one you prefer.

Thanks again everyone!
Mark

Re: feedback needed

Just put the following language inside the <div> tag (and delete the image you have now):

style="background: url(./lines_5x5.gif) repeat"

Also, of course, you'll need to upload the .gif to the same directory as the index.

Edit: So it will read
Code: Select all
<div style="background: url(./lines_5x5.gif) repeat"></div>
2d edit: Or if you want to be cooler, put this in the stylesheet in the <head> section:
Code: Select all
#diag_bg  {background: #afb1a4 url(./lines_5x5.gif) repeat;}
and then your div will read:
Code: Select all
<div id="diag_bg"></div>

Re: feedback needed

Or if you want to be totally cool, cut all of the style information out of the <head> and put it in another file using just Wordpad -- no preliminary coding needed, you just start it with the first style command. Save it as type "all files" (NOT "all supported documents") with the name "style.css". Save it in the same folder/directory as your index.html file.

In the head of your document, put
Code: Select all
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css">

Personally I'd just use Photoshop or Paintshop Pro and stick another piece of lemon in.

PS Although it's a very nice graphic, I think the www.lightbulb thing confuses your iconography. I think you have it totally nailed with your first idea.
