Ive recently set up an image hosting website using PHP to act as an alternative to the likes of imageshack, mainly for my personal use and as PHP practise. http://www.distantpix.com It provides bbcode, html embedding code, direct link and a shorted url with integration of a url shortening website i developed. I have also introduced random photo option. I was wondering what everyone thought of the features and minimalistic design. I need some outsider eyes to tell me what you think.

Re: My imageshack alternative website
I think the design (and the logo) is a little bit to bland. I completely respect your minimalistic approach, but the problem with that is that each element counts even more towards to general look of the site.
No offense, it all seems sorta pointless to me without being able to register. You won't be able to manage your photos or anything. Also, no registration is extremely dangerous and abusers will come a dime for a dozen.

Re: My imageshack alternative website
I was wanting to keep it like imageshack, tinypic etc where you didnt need to upload. Ive built an approval system where I view images before they make the random photo page and can ban malicious users.
What feature do you think I should work on first? I do have user accounts on the to-do list but was thinking of getting multi-file uploads and thumbnails done next. Thanks for the design advice. My aim was to keep it really simple with complete focus on the features but I could do with my own logo. |

Re: My imageshack alternative website
I would make the login system first. Then add an image management system (deleting their pictures, etc.) and then possibly little tidbits like multiple uploads or a upload status bar.
