Hi,
I am working on a new search engine that pulls results from msn and google. Once you make your initial search, the website generates alternative results for the overture suggestion tool. Ive also added ebay and amazon product searches. Im interested in the forums opinions. http://www.The-Web-Search-Engines.com Craig |

Re: New Search Engine
no, no, no....
We don't need another one of these. Create something with some merit and I'll gladly critique it.

Re: New Search Engine
No use.
I think I know what you're trying to achieve, so instead of search engine, become a "directory". Then there may be some interest....

Im already getting interest, people seem to like it.
Does anyone have any advice on how I could improve it. I am quite new to development and it has taken me some time to research and build. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig http://www.The-Web-Search-Engines.com |

Re: New Search Engine
Why are you using the Google 'adsense' logo and not just the Google logo?
Also, on your results page, I couldn't tell what were Google Ads and which were actual results... |

Re: New Search Engine
ok, I don't see why people would go to your site instead of google.
How are you going to promote it? are you going to make a toolbar? how do you set yourself as people's starting page? you've got to come up with sumthing good.... when I start browsing, I can either: - type 'google' and press enter - use my google toolbar, type what I want and it takes me there Your site relies on people going to it instead of the easier, more popular, more attractive and let's face it more popular alternatives such as Google, Yahoo and MSN. You need to offer something that will convince the user to use your site as a starting page for their browsing session instead of the ones above. FOR EXAMPLE: http://searchsight.com/ They show thumbnails of results. (I have a firefox extension that shows me thumbnails in google, but for the average melon head, this is amazing and amuzing at the same time) I'd be very insterested to see what you come up with.... ----- That said... 1. don't restrict the width of your pages. You're forcing the user to scroll more than they want to. Make sure you have as many results as possible visible to the user as soon as the page loads. 2. Have you thought about getting a smaller name, one that people will remember and can easily type to get to your site? ----- At first I thought it was totally useless. I take that back. Now I think it's useless for me, but there may be a market for you out there.

The only listing that shows up in google is this post at webforumz! I think your mistaking the people here who are viewing it for critique reasons as actual visitors. |

I have a large network of online friends who have been testing and refering the site in the US. Im getting good feedback. More than 60% have been saving it to favourites going by my web stats. Its still in the early stages, I need some ideas on how to improve things. Craig |

Re: New Search Engine
lame font, and how many more search engines do we need??? Really even altavista (my personal fav) looks likes it about to give up!
Do however if you must be persistant, make it stand out from the crowd, atm its dull boring and ugly, you want this to replace someones about:blank, get busy! try and add free email/subdomain/chatrooms/forums anything to expand your site reach. |
