Re: andidesign - cheap web design

Not bad at all! You should be proud of it! I like the web 2.0 look very up to date and a nice colour theme. I would say don't have the main navigation jumping like it does on roll over but just let it turn from white to say a dark blue and stay still, I think this would make it feel more serious/professional.

Really liked it!

Re: andidesign - cheap web design

I have to agree on the text jumping - I don't like anything that moves the text I'm trying to read.

Also looks like you've used fireworks slice tool or similar and let fireworks/dreamweaver create the code for you. You should have all your styling in a separate css file and get rid of the tables. The site works ok as a mock up, but now its time to code it properly in xhtml and css.

Just go to the CSS forum, and the stickied posts contain all sorts of resources.

Re: andidesign - cheap web design

I'm completely self taught. Started when I was eight. Learned it all off of online tutorials. There is some web design classes in the highschool, but I'm way beyond that by now.

web design only requires two things: an internet connection and dedication.

so to answer your question, no university classes are need. (Probably better off without them, for the most part they teach table-based layouts. *gag*)

remember: if in doubt, google it

Re: andidesign

Hey mate,

I would have to agree with the others that you should code your site yourself (xhtml/css) instead of using ImageReady and slicing your .jpg to get the code done for you.
(At least delete the <!-- ImageReady Slices (andidesign.psd) -->)

I am surprised no one else has mentioned that as looking at your site you can see that the images from teh table are leaving a
white line between certain images.

Thats one of the side effects of fireworks it puts in a load of unwanted spacers, ususlly 1px in height. You can correct finding the spacers in dreaweaver code and designview and turn the heights to 0px, this will clear the problem from the browser, but tends to mess up the dreamweaver design view abit. If you can live with that its a quick fix to get rid of the lines.

Re: andidesign

im am starting the v2 of my site..

im learning css as im going but im trying to do a header as they do here.. any tips.. ive sussed it out using 3 images... left middle and right and stretching the middle image

<code>
#topleft {
position: absolute;
left: 0;
top: 0;
height: 100px;
width: 400px;
background: url(images/left.gif) no-repeat;
}
#topmid {
position: absolute;
left: 400px;
top: 0;
height: 100px;
width: 10px;
background: url(images/mid.gif);
width: 800px;
}
#topright {
position: absolute;
right: 0;
top: 0;
height: 100px;
width: 300px;
background: url(images/right.gif) no-repeat;
}

</code>

is this anygood or is there a easier way of doing this... plus my image on the left with text on it looks more distorted.
