Hello Everyone.
Ive created this website www.portfoliocafe.com and am looking for as much feedback as possible. Its way to easy to get stuck listening to my own personal critique instead of getting real feedback. So with that said I am turning to you and kindly asking for your feedback, both good and bad We cant build a great website if we don't know what makes a great website? Any feed back would be very appreciated. Enjoy Tony Last edited by Aso; Apr 23rd, 2008 at 08:22. Reason: Merged posts |

Re: Tell me what you think
Overall:
Doesn't look bad although the main content area looks a little washed out in only black and white. Header: Personally i think this is too big - seeing as though it contains nothing but logo and badly rended text. Navigation: works well as it does what it should... only point i would make is that it isn't very scaleable - or is this as big as the site will get? have you thought about creating a secondary navigation with the login | join | Membership | Contact us bits in..? Main content area: Feels a little bland... no real structure to it. Maybe you should bring in a structural element into the page by having headers with a bit of colour in it - bringing out the red of the navigation and the grey from the header...

Re: Tell me what you think
This is just a guess, but did you design this site on a 1024 x 768 screen? I only say this since anything higher, and the layout starts to lose it's flexibility.
The only real problem causers are the 'Search Portfolios by category' and ' 'Put your talents to work!' headers. Since you're using fixed widths, they won't expand. Try using % or auto instead. Here's a screenshot @ 1680 x 1050;

Thanks for your responses,
Your guess is right "This is just a guess, but did you design this site on a 1024 x 768 screen? I only say this since anything higher, and the layout starts to lose it's flexibility" I did do the entire thing on a 1024 monitor, I see from the screen shot how distorted it gets. Also see how the blaness of just Black and White isn't working. I will reinstall the old header as well as the previous color scheme. It was a little more colorful Working on several new elements/ graphics to help give the main area a little more life. Please keep the feedback coming Thank You Again |

Hey everyone,
Thank you again for your feedback on my site www.portfoliocafe.com I've made some color changes as well re-loaded the original header. Overall I think this looks pretty good, but still would like as much feed back as possible. Aso186: I readjusted the sizes to hopefully scale better, used the % instead of a fixed size. Let me know what you think. Thanks King T. |

Re: Tell me what you think
The boost of colour is an improvement
However, things still aren't perfect - you're getting there, but it needs some more work. Take a look at the new screenshot attached. The header image is the serious problem. That background of uneven blocks - you need to size that to a point where you can repeat it horizontally with seamless joins. That way, it can effectively expand infinitely. Then layer the right hand graphic over the top as a separate image. Plus the headings still aren't quite right, they need to completely fill that space. Try also giving the right hand 'Talent Search' some margins to stop the headings cramping it up so much. Also, the border styles for your embedded CSS are invalid. Measurements should not be quoted and a dimension must be specified (px, %, em). Here's a sample CSS that'll work just the same as your embedded styles, but it's much tidier;
