Work in progress...
Hi all,
It's been a couple weeks since I last visited this forum. I've slowly been working on a website I'd like to use as a Web Design "storefront". It is a work in progress, and I definitely don't think I'm ready to go forward with everything I say I can do on my site. I'm just looking for some feedback as to what you "pros" think of the layout so far. I've been told that the B&W scheme is lame, is cool, etc. So far I like it, but am open to criticisms. I'm not exactly sure how the "criticism" works, but just wanted some outside opinions on the work in progress. Please note that I know some of the links do not work as I am working on creating a few forms and trying to figure out how to get my calendar to actually allow visitors to register for classes I teach/will teach soon. Thanks for your advice. Craig |

Re: Work in progress...
I really like everything. I think the B&W theme is one that stands out from the others that try doing so but usually end up overdoing it. I like that you've mixed some bright colour (orange) with it to draw attention and I like the way your puzzle-images look on your portfolio. Overall very good and descriptive content.
The only things I would change perhaps is to size up your content's fonts a liitle bit because it's a tad tiny on 1280x1024 for me here. Good luck. |

Re: Work in progress...
Hi,
Well I got to say I was happily surprised when I saw your design, it's one of the nicest black and white designs I've seen in a while. I like the puzzle pieces look at the top and bottom of the pages, it goes well with the rounded divs. I also really like the way you have used the color orange for the calendar and links, it really looks good and makes things that you want to stand out (like the links) easy to find and easy on the eye. My comments are based on my studies as a web developer and an e-commerce class i am currently taking. Fantastic job on the site!! rhystic |

Re: Work in progress...
Thanks for your feedback "guys". I really appreciate it. It gives me a bit more confidence in my own design ability - not something I thought I had much of. I'll try to increase my font sizes too for the higher resolution, ulrich.
Thanks again. Craig |

Re: Work in progress...
My first thought was "WOW"
My second was "Oww" I don't know why but when I look at your website (it looks good) but i have to step back from my monitor because my eyes just don't like it. Something you should consider, although its a great design, on a 1400*900 lcd, it hurts eyes. 9/10 - Like I said I love this design, except for the eye problem. Seeing that most people don't have a 1400*900 lcd, i'm not letting that hurt you. Great Site!

Re: Work in progress...
Thanks for the feedback Seal.
Is the problem that it's too much black on your screen? My monitor is set to 1440x900 too and that was my first concern: When screen maximized do your eyes bleed when read site? I was told by many people I know that their eyes do not bleed and I kept asking but was told no. Thanks for your comments as it confirms my original thoughts. I think I'm going to leave it pretty much as is for now and maybe tweak it down the road. Seal, was your concern only when the browser is maximized to the 1400x900 or is it even when the brower shows just enough of the site to get all the content (ie no extra BLACKNESS showing)? As you said, large monitors, although more popular, might not be prevelant enough to cause me grief. Thanks again. Craig |

Re: Work in progress...
yes, however it may just be there is not enough white to combat the black, thus not allowing my eyes to center or focus on something, thus bleeding.

Re: Work in progress...
My eyes don't seem fine, but it is slightly distracting. It's not really a big deal though. Oh and I'm on a 17" 1680x1050 so the screen is hi-resolution.

Re: Work in progress...
Thanks for the feedback.
As I am very new to Web Design, can you give me some ideas on what you mean by the WOW factor. What could I incormporate into the site that would do that. Thanks for advice. Craig |

Re: Work in progress...
well maybe some more images or some gradients, it looks nice but it is very simple, maybe some kind of navigation that is a bit more web 2.0ish
